Resident Evil Movie Reboot - Part 2

Recap
I want to see a reboot of the Resident Evil films that follows closer to the characters and plotlines of the games. I see how it could be an epic Six Films saga (with two trilogies) like Star Wars. The first trilogy was outlined in the previous post. It was basically:
1st Film - 'Resident Evil' - based on the original Resident Evil game. STARS stumbled upon the Mansion and Umbrella's secrets.
2nd Film - 'RE: City of the Dead' - loosely based on RE2/RE3. Zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. After Raccoon Police Department (RPD) - last safe haven in the city - gets overrun by zombies, Jill leads a band of survivors (Leon, Claire, Sherry, Ada, Carlos, Mark, Jim, Yoko, Alyssa) to the clocktower where a rescue chopper awaits. But it gets blown up by Nemesis and they had to go to the sewers to find another way out. But Sherry got infected and to save her life, they had to go to Umbrella's secret underground labs.
3rd Film - RE: Umbrella Falls - loosely based on RE CVX/UC/DC. Claire gets captured and prisoned at an Umbrella facility at Siberia run by Alfred Ashford. Chris, Jill, Leon, Krauser and a paramilitary group raids the facility. Meanwhile, Wesker sneaks in to obtain Umbrella's data files. flashbacks to Wesker's past with Umbrella is revealed.

Got all that? Ok, let's move on.

Resident Evil Reboot - The Second Trilogy (Film 4, 5, 6) - Post-Umbrella Trilogy

RE: The Plague

New trilogy. Fresh storyline. What better way to start this second trilogy than making it based on the game that rejuvenated the franchise: Resident Evil 4.

PLOT

When the President's daughter gets kidnapped, Leon (now working as US government agent) follows a trail of clues that leads him to a remote Spanish village. He discovers that the Spanish village is under the control of a cult group called Los Illiuminados that possess a mind controlling parasite called Las Plagas. They kidnapped the US president's daughter in order to infect her and use her to spread the parasite within the US government. The situation is further complicated with the involvement of Krauser (Leon's former comrade in the third movie) and Ada (from the second movie).

STYLE

As mentioned in the previous post, I want each of the Resident Evil films to have their own distinctive style and tone. Resident Evil should be an atmospheric haunted house horror film, the sequel should be a multi-character post-apocalyptic survivor film, the third one should be have a tragic story element to it (Ashford's story, Wesker's story, Steve's story). The fourth one should be a solid action adventure film.

You have it all: Leon as the cool wisecracking hero, Ashley as the damsel in distress, Ada the sexy femme fatale, Luis as the memorable semi-sidekick, Krauser as the villain that's equally skilled as the hero, Salazar as the villain you love to hate and Saddler as the token cult leader that doesnt have much personality other than wanting to take over the world.

But most of those characters will only be revealed in the second half of the movie (the Castle and Island base setting). The first half of the movie should revolve around the 'buddy cop' relationship between Leon and Luis as they try to survive the crazy villagers. This half would feel more like 'Children of the Corn' or 'Wicker Man'. Once Leon meets the President's daughter and arrives at the Castle, the movie would turn more into an action adventure film ala Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom with giant troll-like creatures and crazy murderous villagers/cult. .

Bottom Line: The fourth movie should be based on the popular 'Resident Evil 4'. It'll start out as a more intense version of 'Wicker Man' with Leon and Luis follow clues to the whereabouts of the President's daughter and survive the onslaught of the Villagers. Things shift gear in the middle of the movie once Leon finds Ashley and it's all about finding an escape - only to be fall deeper into the conspiracy of the Los Illuminados.

RE: The Abyss

I love the globetrotting/time jumping story of 'Resident Evil: Revelations'. It was also nice to see the inner workings of the 'Bioterrosim Security Assessment Alliance' (BSAA). I also like the ship in the middle of the sea setting - it's something that I've always thought to be a perfect setting for an action/horror/zombie movie. And I'm pretty sure the guys behind Resident Evil games feel the same way (the original setting for RE3 was a Cruise ship; the setting for RE Gaiden, the first handheld RE game, was set in a cruise ship; Semi-FPS RE: Dead Aim was set in a cruise ship as well).

PLOT

After the events of the previous film and another bioterrorist act on an island, several anti-bioterrorism groups were formed to combat the threat. The three notables ones were The Federal Bioterrorism Commission (FBC) under the American government; Terrasave - a human rights organization with Claire as a member; the non-govermental group called 'Bioterrosim Security Assessment Alliance' (BSAA) - founded by Chris and Jill. The story follows the two of them on a separate bioterrorism case - one in a seemingly abandoned ship in the middle of the mediterranean and the other on the snowy mountains in Finland. Both of them followed a trail of clues that uncover an international conspiracy involving the black market sales of BOWs, the corruption of the FBC, and the involvment of Umbrella's elusive founder Ozwell Spencer.

GENRE

This entry to the film series would take on a political/action thriller genre. The threat of a global bioterrorism is the key theme here. Filled with conspiracies, backstabbings and dealings with powerful political figures - it is a Jason Bourne movie with zombies and tentacled monsters.

The film would lead up to a showdown between Chris, Jill, Wesker and Ozwell Spencer. Wesker would find out about his secret origin: he was the only surviving children of an experiment by Spencer to create a perfect race for a new world in which Spencer himself would be God. Wesker kills Spencer and makes it clear that he had the same God complex as well. Chris and Jill fights Wesker. Jill and Wesker plunge down a cliff....their bodies were never found.

Bottom Line: A globetrotting political thriller involving the fight against bioterrorism, uncovering the corruption of some of these anti-bioterrorism groups and the manhunt for Ozwell Spencer and Wesker.

RE: The Cradle of Life

And we have reached the epic conclusion of this six part saga. Everything that happened has led to this moment. Largely based on Resident Evil 5, the first half of this movie would definitely take inspirations from the film that inspired that game in first place: Black Hawk Down.

PLOT

Chris is now a borderline alcoholic ever since the 'death' of Jill. He is assigned to Africa - now a hot bed for bioterrorism when guerilla groups got a hold of BOWs. He meets his sister Claire, working for TerraSave, who is helping out victims of bioterror attacks by guerrillas especially the orphans. Chris also partners with two young BSAA agents - Piers Nevans, the young idealistic agent who looks up to Chris as a hero, and Sheva Alomar, an orphan whose parents were killed by one of Umbrella's bio experiment 'accidents'.

All hell breaks lose when several US officials were captured by guerrilla rebels and Leon is sent to rescue them. Meanwhile, Chris, Claire, Sheva, Piers and other BSAA soldiers had to survive an African town plagued by a mind controlling parasitic outbreak - caused by the rebel guerillas.

Unsurprisingly, Wesker is behind all of this. He wants to spread the Uroboros Virus - the perfect virus that all the other virus/parasite research have been leading to - all over the world. Ada has now seen how far crazy Wesker has become and decides to fully help Leon.

Our heroes also discover a cavern where the plants containing the Progenitor virus in its pure form is discovered. This turns out to be where Spencer and colleagues found the virus that jumpstarted their viral research and the Umbrella corporation.

Jill turns out to be alive and is now a mind controlled assassin working for Wesker. Chris manages to snap her out of it and they both make a heroic sacrifice to destroy Wesker once and for all.

Chris and Jill die together heroically. Leon offers Ada to work with him as government agents but Ada refuses. She does hope that the next time they meet, it won't involve any monsters and guns. Piers and Sheva continues the fight against any bioterrorist threat - they are the new Chris and Jill of the BSAA.

THE END

Well there you have it! My idea for a Six Movie Resident Evil Reboot. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the new game that's coming out in October.
